Tim Hanbury hit with hidden Brexit rule at Stansted stopping him from boarding a flight | Royal | News

Even though the 70-year-old’s passport did not expire for another nine months, he was still unable to visit a friend’s house in Europe for a few days holiday.

One of his friends told the Daily Mail: “Tim was very upset and frustrated. He was fuming about Ryanair because he could not have the weekend away that he was looking forward to.”

A Ryanair spokesman said: “As this passenger’s passport was issued in May 2013, it does not meet the first entry requirement under EU legislation.”

Mr Hanbury’s daughter Rose, 39, a former model, is married to the Marquess of Cholmondeley David Rocksavage, 62, are well-known figures in royal circles.

The Marquess once served as Lord Great Chamberlain under the late Queen Elizabeth and is now Lord in Waiting for King Charles.

Their son Lord Oliver, 13, also served as one of the Pages of Honour for Charles at his Coronation, alongside Prince George.

Rose has been in attendance at a number of important royal events in recent years, including the Service of Thanksgiving for Prince Philip and the Queen’s funeral.

The Cholmondeley family live at Houghton Hall in Norfolk, close to the Wales family’s country home at Anmer Hall.

Given their close proximity the couples run in the same social circles, a group known as the “Turnip Toffs” by some media outlets.

Since marrying in 2009 at Chelsea Town hall the Hanburys have had three children together, twin boys Alexander and Oliver and a daughter Iris.

According to Hello, “in June 2009 the couple announced their engagement, the next day it was revealed they were expecting and just a day later they tied the knot.”

The Marchioness has other royal connections alongside her friendship with William and Kate, as her grandmother Lady Rose Lambert was a bridesmaid at Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s wedding in 1947.

Before marrying her husband, the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley, she worked as a model and a researcher for Tory MP Michael Gove.

Thanks to her proximity to the royals the Marchioness has been photographed at significant royal events, including the banquet of honour held for then-President Trump during his visit to the UK.

She also attended church in Sandringham with the royals in January 2020.
