Major incident declared after ‘massive explosion’ at South Wales industrial property | EUROtoday

A significant incident has been declared by South Wales Police after a fireplace broke out at an industrial property in South Wales tonight.

South Wales Police mentioned its officers have been on the scene of a “serious incident” in Severn Road in Treforest – and that roads across the property had been closed.

Treforest is a village close to Pontypridd 24 miles away from Cardiff.

The BBC reported how eyewitnesses heard a “massive explosion”.

Krishnaraj Nadarajah, the supervisor of a close-by petrol station, mentioned: “It felt like it was an earthquake or something. We went outside and there was a fire starting to build up, it was a huge fire and smoke.”

Officers have declared a ‘major incident’ and mentioned on social media: “We are at the scene of a serious incident on Severn Road, Trefforest. The roads are closed around the area of Trefforest Industrial Estate and are expected to remain closed for some time.

“It is illegal for anyone to fly any drones at the location unless permission has been given.”

Social media customers have shared their anguish as many witnessed the loud explosion.

Karen Coles from Pontypridd mentioned: “Never been so scared hearing of the explosion down Treforest industrial estate when Rhys’s football team were training. They are all fine never seen so many emergency services , hope everyone is safe.”

Local councillor Karl Johnson instructed Sky News he believes the incident occurred at Mindset Functional Fitness Ltd, with the entrance of the constructing “completely destroyed” by the explosion.

Over 15 police automobiles and 10 ambulances have been despatched to the scene alongside the hearth service, Mr Johnson instructed Sky.

The NHS have warned these within the native space to not go to A&E until essential.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board mentioned: “Due to the ongoing incident at Treforest Ind Estate this evening, all of our emergency departments are currently on high alert.

“Please help us by not attending A&E unless absolutely necessary. We need to be able to provide care to those who need it the most.”
