Keir Starmer’s authorities is going through a conflict with the civil service union after ministers briefed towards Whitehall’s prime mandarin.

Dave Penman, the final secretary for the Association of First Division Civil Servants (FDA), has reacted with fury to briefings about cupboard secretary Simon Case.

The Independent revealed how senior ministers have informed Sir Keir that he must take away Mr Case instantly accusing him of “poisoning the well of government”.

The finger has been pointed at Mr Case over briefings towards Starmer’s chief of employees Sue Gray with whom he had a troublesome relationship when she was a senior civil servant.

While the prime minister’s spokesperson has stated he’s happy that Mr Case was not answerable for the briefings, ministers have warned he must go now somewhat than in 12 weeks time as presently deliberate.
