Women make up solely 17% of executives (and 6% of CEOs). They are extra represented in employees roles (human sources, authorized, audit, sustainability and so forth) and fewer in enterprise roles (CEO, advertising and marketing and gross sales, analysis and improvement, basic administration). The imbalance is especially evident in listed corporations, which undertake much less virtuous practices than non-listed ones.

These are the outcomes of the primary survey of the «Executive Women» observatory of Sda Bocconi School of administration, in partnership with the corporate Eric Salmon & Partners, offered yesterday in Milan at Bocconi University, on the event of the convention «Executive girls in Italy: presence, roles and profession paths”.

The survey was conducted on 320 large Italian companies (169 of which are listed) and involved 2,920 executives. The picture that has emerged reveals that in management we are far from gender equality, but a positive signal for the future seems to come from the new generations, with a greater presence of women among managers, compared to their male colleagues, in the Millennial cohort.

The gap in roles and sectors

In the sample analyzed, women executives are 507 out of 2,920 (17%). The average age is 50 years (54 for men).

The gender hole is current in all company buildings and cuts throughout all sectors. However, listed corporations seem much less virtuous, with a decrease illustration of girls on the prime. Women basically administration are 35% in unlisted corporations and three% in listed ones. The percentages drop additional if we have a look at feminine CEOs, who’re 9% in unlisted corporations and simply 3% in listed ones.
