Peru’s ex-president Toledo sentenced to lengthy jail for corruption | EUROtoday

Former Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo has been sentenced to twenty years and 6 months in jail for corruption and cash laundering. In 2005, he accepted a bribe of 35 million US {dollars} (32.3 million euros) from the Brazilian building firm Odebrecht for the contract to construct a piece of the Interoceanica freeway between the Atlantic and the Pacific, based on the Peruvian judiciary’s causes for the decision. In doing so, the now 78-year-old triggered monetary injury to the state.
