Fatah-Hamas settlement on committee to manage Gaza

The Palestinian Fatah motion and Hamas have agreed to arrange a joint committee to manage the Gaza Strip, in accordance with an Egyptian proposal. The settlement between the 2 Palestinian factions was reached following a collection of conferences in Cairo which ended yesterday, in response to the Haaretz newspaper.

The settlement stipulates that the committee shall be liable for offering and distributing humanitarian assist, the civil administration of Gaza and overseeing the reconstruction of the Strip and the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt, as occurred in 2005.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) will subject a decree ordering the institution of the Community Support Committee, which shall be subordinate to the Palestinian authorities in administrative, monetary, supervisory and authorized issues.

According to stories within the Arab press, the committee shall be made up of 10-15 members, together with impartial and specialised Palestinian people.
