Ministers should seek out two members of a grooming gang on the run after receiving “pathetically short” sentences, Robert Jenrick has declared.
Ibrar Hussain and brothers Imtiaz and Fayaz Ahmed, had been convicted of raping a schoolgirl in her early teenagers throughout the Nineteen Nineties.
Prosecutors branded their actions “wicked, vile and sordid”, including that the woman was attacked after being given alcohol and medicines.
But justice chiefs have admitted the Ahmed brothers are “thought to be abroad” they usually have no idea the place they’re. They had each fled earlier than they had been discovered responsible.
Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick stated: “What is the government doing to find these men?
“We need to change the law so they receive life sentences, not pathetically short ones as now. And we need a full national inquiry into rape gangs. This cancer has to be rooted out.”
Hussain, 47, of Mornington Street, obtained six-and-a-half years for 2 rapes.
Imtiaz Ahmed, 62, was given 9 years for a single offence of rape, whereas Fayaz Ahmed was sentenced to 7 and a half years after being discovered responsible of two counts of rape. Both brothers had been convicted of their absence.
Solicitor General Lucy Rigby revealed: “In respect of Imitaz Ahmed and Fayaz Ahmed, I am informed that their location is presently not known, although they are thought to be abroad.
“I believe it is imperative that both men face justice for their appalling crimes and a warrant will remain in place to ensure their sentences can be served as soon as they can be brought to custody.”
The sentences given to the three intercourse offenders have been referred to the Court of Appeal, the Attorney General’s workplace has confirmed. This may result in the paedophiles being jailed for longer.
Tory MP Robbie Moore stated: “After repeatedly challenging the government on this issue, I welcome their decision to finally review the sentences of these three vile grooming gang members in Keighley.
“These men committed horrific crimes—rape, exploitation, and the sustained abuse of two 13 and 16 year old girls in our town.
“They received pathetically short sentences, which have finally been deemed weak enough to be challenged under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) Scheme.
“But it should never have taken this much pressure to get to this point and we now need to see the strongest outcome possible. This decision also raises serious questions about the system that allowed these sentences to stand in the first place.
“If these three cases met the threshold for potential undue leniency, why not the five other men involved in these horrific crimes?
“And then there’s the fact that two of these men managed to abscond abroad before their trials even took place.
“As I have said before, justice delayed is justice denied. I will keep pushing to make sure these men – and everyone convicted of serious sexual offences in our area – receive the strongest possible sentences.”
Sussex Police confirmed the three paedophiles had been linked to 5 different males, who had been all jailed for intercourse offences in opposition to one woman.
Amreaz Asghar, 47, of Keighley, was jailed for four-and-a-half years for rape, Perwaz Asghar, 50, of Nottingham, was jailed for six-and-a-half years for 2 indecent assaults, Mohammed Din, 47, of Keighley, was jailed for 14 years for 11 counts of rape; Sajid Mahmood Khan, 45, of Keighley was jailed for 3 years for rape; Zehroon Razak, 47, of Keighley, was jailed for six-and-a-half years for rape.
