The Greek case
In Greece, the drop in fuel prices and the weather conditions have significantly contributed to the increase in demand, a trend that, on the basis of current data, will be expected to continue in the next period. The reduction of prices, which began in the middle of last month, led to an increase in the consumption of petrol, diesel and heating oil.
The most impressive data is that relating to heating diesel, with an increase in consumption in February 50% compared to the same month of the previous year. The main reason is the lowering of temperatures, combined with the decrease in the price, which was on average 1.25 euros per liter, about 7% less than the 1.35 euros per liter recorded in February 2024.
Diesel can be rising, as a result of improve in demand by the agricultural and building sectors. With the arrival of Easter and the start of the summer time season, the prospects of an extra strengthening of the demand seem significantly promising.
