Scammers stole £47m from HMRC in phishing assault

Scammers stole £47m from the web accounts of 100,000 folks by way of “organised crime phishing”, HMRC has revealed.

The tax authority stated it’s writing to these affected to verify it has secured their accounts and that they have not misplaced any cash.

“These are attempts to claim money fraudulently from HMRC, not from customers,” HMRC stated.
