The chief of the CGT, Sophie Binet, introduced, Tuesday December 2 on France Inter, her indictment for public insult after having described the bosses of “rats that leave the ship” of which “the only objective is greed”.
The employers’ motion Ethic (Companies on a human scale, impartial and rising) introduced in February that it was submitting a criticism for public insult in opposition to the union chief. Indictment is an virtually computerized process for the sort of criticism.
Sophie Binet commented, on January 31 on RTL, on feedback made a number of days earlier by the boss of the LVMH group, Bernard Arnault. The billionaire estimated that the federal government’s proposed surtax “pushed for relocation”.
The union chief mentioned Tuesday “extremely shocked” to have discovered of her indictment due to the feedback she had made in regards to the bosses, “because by saying that, I only did my job as a trade unionist, namely to denounce relocations and denounce the inequalities in the distribution of wealth and the fact that billionaires always pay less taxes and no longer feel responsible for employment in France”she reacted on France Inter.
“Say out loud what everyone is thinking”
“It’s called a popular image, it’s saying out loud what everyone is thinking and I think it’s important in public debate that we can speak without tongue in cheek”she defended herself. “We have many more multinationals who don’t care about employment in France, like LVMH. This is a handicap for the French economy. French multinationals treat their subcontractors very badly”she added.
In its criticism, the Ethic affiliation, chaired by Sophie de Menthon and whose intention is particularly to“ensure by all means the promotion and defense of businesses”had estimated that “all the major business leaders are directly attacked here” by the unionist. The affiliation believes that Mme Binet focuses on enterprise leaders a “negative value judgment which necessarily taints their honor and reputation” and contemplate “particularly offensive” a comparability with rats.
