Benin: troopers announce coup, president: management regained | EUROtoday

A bunch of troopers appeared on Benin state tv saying a coup and the dissolution of the federal government. The group, which known as itself the Military Committee for Refoundation, introduced the elimination of the president and all state establishments, and the appointment of Lieutenant Colonel Pascal Tigri as president of the Military Committee.

Local media, nevertheless, inform that the president Patrice Talon is “safe” and that the military is regaining management. “It is a small group of people who only control television,” sources near Talon stated. “The regular army is regaining control. The city and the country are completely safe,” the sources add.
