The British armed forces will reduce abroad workouts in a bid to focus extra on its warfighting capabilities and improve homeland defence. The transfer, introduced by defence minister Al Carns, comes because the UK continues to prioritise Russian deterrence and bolsters its assist of NATO.
Carns, a former Royal Marines Colonel and serving reservist, confirmed the transfer in a written parliamentary query in response to shadow defence secretary James Cartlidge. He stated: “From 2026-27, the Army, in collaboration with international partners, plans to reduce the number of overseas training exercises. This adjustment will enable a greater focus on NATO commitments and enhancing land warfighting capabilities.”

Last month, the UK’s Carrier Strike Group returned house after an eight-month mission to the Indo-Pacific which took the drive as far east as Japan and Australia.
Earlier this week, the top of the Royal Navy warned that the drive dangers dropping its superiority within the Atlantic to Russia if defence spending just isn’t stepped up.
