An opportunistic thief opened the rear door of a Royal Mail van and tried to steal packages whereas the postman was emptying a postbox. Tegan Harker, 20, snatched the big parcel on West Lane in central Middlesbrough.
Upon returning to his van on October 27, the postman observed a warning mild indicating his again door was ajar. He stepped out to safe it and noticed Harker strolling away with the package deal.
Teesside Crown Court heard that the brave postman pursued her and a scuffle ensued as he tried to retrieve the parcel. Harker threatened the Royal Mail employee, saying she would “stab him” if he did not launch his grip.
He contacted the police, and upon their arrival, she deserted the parcel. The package deal was subsequently returned to its rightful proprietor.
