Mayor of Tübingen about his former celebration: “I would come back to the Greens straight away,” says Palmer | EUROtoday

The mayor of Tübingen, Boris Palmer, though he doesn’t really feel any “compulsion to change” in his life, has hope of returning to the Green Party, of which he was a member for a few years. Quite a bit will depend on the Green Party’s high candidate for Baden-Württemberg, Cem Özdemir.

Tübingen’s mayor Boris Palmer has come to phrases with the separation from the Greens two years in the past, however hope for a return has not dried up.

“I have hope. And it will also have a lot to do with whether Cem Özdemir manages to keep the Greens in Baden-Württemberg on Kretschmann’s course with an election success. Let’s see,” stated Palmer. There is an pressing want for a powerful ecological drive in German politics, says Palmer two months earlier than the state elections in Baden-Württemberg on March eighth. Özdemir, like Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann, who remains to be in workplace, is counted as a part of the Realo wing of the celebration.

“I would immediately come back to the Green Party, where I joined 20 years ago,” emphasizes Palmer. If he has the impression that the celebration can get together with him and he with the celebration, we will discuss it once more. There are at present no discussions with Özdemir a couple of return. “But I read his interviews and I could sign all of them. So we both get along well politically and would have no problems being in the same party,” explains Palmer.

There was all the time a rapprochement between Palmer and his former celebration. Özdemir as soon as stated he wished there was a means again. “Writing people off forever is something you should rarely do,” stated the Green politician from Baden-Württemberg.

“I have now opened a new political phase, so to speak, a new political chapter for myself and the beauty of it is the independence. Nobody is upset anymore that I said something that supposedly goes against the party line,” says Palmer. He shouldn’t be searching for any new political workplace. “I don’t think I’m aiming for another political level again. I have no compulsion to change,” says Palmer.

Palmer, an area politician identified far past Baden-Württemberg, has been mayor of Tübingen since 2007. He repeatedly offends with political statements. In May 2023, he resigned from the Green Party after a scandal over the usage of the N-word, which many seen as racist. His membership had already been suspended due to different controversial statements. After a break, amongst different issues, he modified the principles for feedback on his Facebook profile. Comment columns have been restricted and, based on Palmer, provocative assaults are ignored.
