Socialist deputies won’t vote on the motions of censure tabled by the National Rally and La France insoumise on the free commerce settlement with Mercosur, confirmed Sunday January 11 the primary secretary of the Socialist Party (PS), Olivier Faure.

“What we can criticize Emmanuel Macron for is having varied a lot on the issue. (…) But in the end he says no. And so the moment he says no (…) and where we have a vote in the European Parliament in a few days (…)it would be absurd to say that (…) we censor the government”stated the deputy for Seine-et-Marne on BFMTV.

Two motions of censure centered on the EU-Mercosur treaty, one tabled by LFI, the opposite by the RN, have to be debated in the midst of subsequent week within the National Assembly towards the federal government of Sébastien Lecornu.

Meeting in Bercy on Monday

Questioned additionally concerning the finances, and the doable use by the Prime Minister of article 49 paragraph 3 of the Constitution to have it adopted, Mr. Faure refused to demand it, as a number of political leaders did on Sunday, notably the previous President of the Republic, François Hollande.

The PS will go to a meeting in Bercy on Monday to address the points remaining under discussion with the government camp. Mr. Faure notably called for an effort for the ecological transition, for public services, a surcharge on business profits increased to 8 billion euros, and a boost for the activity bonus.
