A New York police officer is on modified obligation after fatally taking pictures a raccoon that reportedly charged aggressively at members of the general public in Rockaway Beach.
The incident occurred round 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, following a 911 name reporting a vicious animal. Officers have been making an attempt to information the raccoon from a boardwalk to a safer space when it all of the sudden lunged, prompting an officer to discharge their weapon. No people have been injured, police confirmed.
The officer concerned has not been recognized. The New York Police Department’s Force Investigation Division, which opinions officer firearm discharges, is now main an inquiry.
It wasn’t clear on Monday if officers deliberate to check the raccoon for rabies.
