The ineligibility of the previous far-right mayor of Orange Jacques Bompard, convicted in March 2021 for unlawful taking of curiosity, was lifted on Tuesday January 27 by the Nîmes Court of Appeal, authorizing him to be a candidate within the subsequent municipal elections, his lawyer mentioned.
This choice comes the day after the conviction, lower than two months earlier than the municipal election, of his son Yann, who succeeded him in 2021 as city corridor of Orange (Vaucluse), and himself made ineligible.
Yann Bompard sentenced
Yann Bompard was sentenced, Monday, by the Marseille Criminal Court to 5 years of ineligibility with provisional execution and eighteen months of suspended jail time for having held a fictitious job as a parliamentary collaborator.
“Yesterday, Yann Bompard was released from the town hall and unable to appear, and this morning his father can regain his eligibility again, all in two different jurisdictions, the criminal court of Marseille for Yann and the court of appeal of Nîmes for Jacques, it’s pretty crazy”commented Jacques Bompard’s lawyer, Me Gilbert Sindres.
“I was surprised”reacted Tuesday afternoon Jacques Bompard, 82 years outdated, quoted by Ici Provence, confirming his intention to be a candidate. “My popularity is intact”he assured. His son, for his half, introduced that he would attraction his conviction, believing that he could be “still operational” for the 2032 municipal elections.
