Marines save climber discovered curled up on Ben Nevis in -20C blizzard | News | EUROtoday

A gaggle of marines on a coaching train stumbled upon a climber curled up within the snow in freezing circumstances on Ben Nevis.

The group, which consisted of Scottish Royal Marine Reserves (RMR) and the Dutch Korps Mariniers, had summited Britain’s highest mountain in Gale Force 8 winds with one metre visibility on 24 January once they observed the person.

Footage shared by the Royal Navy exhibits the troops transporting the person – who was discovered with “ice blocks” on his face – down the mountain in a makeshift stretcher.

”If we hadn’t seen him, he actually wouldn’t have survived,” mentioned Sergeant Onno Lankhaar, part commander for the Dutch marines.

The climber was later effectively sufficient to have the ability to stroll independently and was handed over to emergency companies.
