Juso chief Turmer calls on the SPD to interact in “class struggle”. | EUROtoday

Before the closed assembly of the SPD management, Juso chairman Philipp Türmer is looking on his celebration to put a larger burden on heirs and to extend capital beneficial properties tax. The SPD should “lead the class struggle and win,” writes Türmer in a visitor article for the “Tagesspiegel”.

“Capital gains contribute nothing to our social system and little to the general tax pool. The flat-rate taxation of 25 percent is well below the burden on average working incomes,” writes the chairman of the SPD youth group. “Corporations shift their profits until there is nothing left to tax, while the tradesman next door obediently pays corporation tax.” The 25 p.c capital beneficial properties tax was launched underneath the previous Finance Minister Peer Steinbrück (SPD).

Türmer additionally declares conflict on “unperforming heirs”. “Hardly taxed profits that have grown into large assets are marginally taxed or not taxed at all by the incapable heir,” he writes in his visitor article. While workers are burdened a number of instances by duties and consumption taxes, super-rich heirs are sometimes solely requested to pay if their tax advisor makes a mistake. Nowhere is the battle between labor and capital extra tangible. “The SPD also ignored distribution conflicts for too long, while culture wars dominated the debate outside of the reality of many people’s lives,” writes Social Democrat Türmer.

The focus is at present shifting “back to distribution,” writes Tümer. That’s good. There is a chance for the SPD to resume its mission and resolutely characterize the pursuits of workers.

Türmer accused the coalition accomplice CDU/CSU of waging a “class war”. “The class struggle has long been here. It is carried out by a union that occasionally talks about social partnership, but actually does not seek a balance of interests,” he writes. The Union needs to “enforce the interests of a small group of employers against 46 million employees”
