Only a Labour government will do that.

“I depart with pleasure in all we have now achieved combined with remorse on the circumstances of my departure. But I’ve at all times believed there are moments when you should settle for your duty and step apart for the larger trigger.”

Sir Keir expressed a “debt of gratitude” to Mr McSweeney and credited his “dedication, loyalty and management” for Labour’s 2024 general election win.

The Prime Minister said: “It’s been an honour working with Morgan McSweeney for a few years.
