Report after report, the observation is clear: the aging of the population, combined with the decline in births, endangers our social protection model, which is based on the balance between active and inactive people. In December 2025, the Court of Auditors called on decision-makers to integrate the demographic trajectory into budgetary debates, highlighting its “profound effects”. The new scenario questions the sustainability of the well being system, raises the query of the employability of seniors and the financing of pensions, using immigration, solidarity between generations, and so on.
