A Labour mayor helped cover her son’s telephone after he raped a teenage lady. Naheed Ejaz, the previous city mayor for Bracknell in Berkshire, stated she let her “mother’s love” cloud her judgement after being convicted of perverting the course of justice.

He added: “He is her boy, she was worried about the consequences for him and for her. She was a public figure after all.

Clare Evans, defending, said Ejaz did not open the door to police immediately as she had gone to wake up her son. She added that the former mayor had “co-operated” with police.
She said: “She is paying him lip service. When she is being advised by Mr Khan you’ll not say something to them and he or she says no.
“She goes back to talking to the police. She is trying to shut him up. She was trying to find his phone and get this circus out of her house.”
Meanwhile, Nadia Chbat, defending Khan, stated the 15-year-old sufferer had lied about her age. She reportedly advised him she was 22.
Both Ejaz and Khan might be sentenced at a later date.
