After the arrest of a Deutsche Welle correspondent in Turkey, Minister of State for Culture Weimer referred to as for his quick launch – and spoke of baseless allegations.

Minister of State for Culture Wolfram Weimer is asking for the quick launch of the Deutsche Welle (DW) correspondent who was arrested in Turkey. “I call on the Turkish government to ensure that Alican Uludağ is released from prison immediately,” mentioned Weimer (unbiased) of the German Press Agency and emphasised: “Journalistic work is not a criminal offense.”

The Turkish authorities’s allegations towards the DW journalist are unfounded. “He must be released. Deutsche Welle and its employees must be able to work freely in Turkey and report independently.”

Uludağ was arrested in Ankara on Thursday. According to Deutsche Welle, he was taken away by quite a few law enforcement officials in entrance of his household. He is accused of “spreading misleading information to the public”, “insulting the president” and “insulting the Turkish nation, the state and the institutions”. DW and its director Barbara Massing rejected the allegations and referred to as for his quick launch. Turkey is ranked 159th out of 180 international locations in Reporters Without Borders’ press freedom rating.
