Hacker assault on RTL Group: No buyer knowledge stolen | EUROtoday

RTL Group has given the all-clear to the hacker assault wherein knowledge from 27,000 workers was stolen. “Data from end customers, business partners and viewers are not affected by the data leak,” the media firm stated in response to a request from the FAZ. Regarding the worker knowledge that was stolen, it may be stated that “no passwords or data were extracted from individual Microsoft accounts”.

The Lithuanian safety firm “Cybernews” reported the leak. Hackers stole “full names, business email addresses, physical office addresses, job titles and in some cases private telephone numbers” from RTL Group.

The Luxembourg-based media firm, which incorporates the German RTL Group, the French broadcaster M6 and the London-based manufacturing firm Freemantle, had confirmed the hack. “Cybernews” listed the risks that may very well be related to this: Attackers may use the information “for social engineering attacks, impersonate colleagues in order to obtain further personal data or spread malware.”

In addition, “hostile actors, from governments to non-governmental groups,” may “target the devices of journalists, particularly investigative reporters who investigate sensitive topics such as corruption or organized crime.” The stolen knowledge is reportedly being supplied on the Darknet at a cut price worth of 20 euros.
