Peter Mandelson’s arrest would not have occurred in lots of nations, a former Attorney General has claimed.

Former Attorney General Sir Michael Ellis informed GB News: “There are 193 countries at the United Nations. I doubt there are more than ten or 20 of those193 where this sort of thing would happen, where the highest in the land are treated in the same way as anybody else.

“There are many countries in the world, including countries which have been affected by the Epstein files and allegations emanating from millions of documents there, where prominent people have not been dealt with, at least not so far in the same way.

“It’s difficult to know the rationale but the police have important criteria that they have to follow in each and every case; I’m not talking now about this case, I’m talking generally about every case, whether they’re arresting someone for shoplifting or for murder.

“And they look at their codes of practice, the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, and the codes of practice that are attached to that Act, code G, talks about arresting powers.

“And the police have to ensure that in every case it is a necessary thing for them to do. If there are alternatives, they can do something different and they should do something different.

“They’ve made a judgement in this case; whether that’s the correct judgement or not, we won’t know until probably many months in the future until these matters are explored.

“But the police know that whether it’s a year from now or whenever, these matters will be examined in great detail.”
