Less than three weeks earlier than the municipal elections, Rachida Dati, who’s a candidate for Paris City Hall, introduced on BFM-TV her departure from the Ministry of Culture on the night of Wednesday February 25. “I submitted my resignation this morning to the President of the Republic”she introduced, saying she had been “very happy to be the Minister of Culture, but the fight of my life is Paris”.
“The Head of State thanked her for the useful action she has deployed in the service of the French over the last two years and sent her all his encouragement in the fight she is leading”stated the Élysée in a press launch.
Pressed by the Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, for a number of weeks to go away the Ministry of Culture, Rachida Dati tried to increase her lease so long as attainable. Initially, the date of February 22 – which marked the beginning of the reserve for the municipal elections – was talked about.

But Rachida Dati performed for time explaining that she “will leave[t] the government before the elections »whose first round is on March 15, recalling that Edouard Philippe had in his time remained in Matignon while leading his municipal campaign in Le Havre in 2020. Rachida Dati also invoked the management of the crisis at the Louvre Museum, where the departure of its president Laurence des Cars was announced Tuesday evening, to obtain a reprieve.
“I decided to leave the government before the municipal elections to give my all to this campaign. I had a mission to complete, I had made commitments to the agents of the Ministry of Culture, on certain missions, on the Louvre, on its reorganization. I had made commitments to the union organizations, to the agents for whom I have the greatest respect. My duty was to complete this reorganization [pour le Louvre] that I had announced and to put in place new governance, this is what happened today”with the appointment of Christophe Leribault as head of the museum on Wednesday, she defined on BFM-TV.
During the weekend, Matignon introduced that the reshuffle would happen throughout the week, citing the motions of censure filed respectively by the National Rally and La France insoumise to justify this postponement of some days.
The Elysée had already introduced on Sunday the appointment of David Amiel as head of the Ministry of Action and Public Accounts, taking up from Amélie de Montchalin, who started her mandate as president of the Court of Auditors on Monday.
