Lee Anderson furiously erupts at Labour over ‘shameful’ migrant plans | Politics | News | EUROtoday

He warned that British taxpayers shouldn’t be paying for “leaving gifts” for failed asylum seekers. Mr Anderson wrote on X: “£40,000 for breaking into Britain. The Home Secretary has announced a trial scheme where families of failed asylum seekers will be offered up to £40,000 as an incentive to leave the UK.

“This is disgraceful. Taxpayers’ cash shouldn’t be used to pay for leaving items for individuals who broke into our nation illegally. I’ve written to the Home Secretary to precise my opposition to this shameful concept.”

The Home Secretary outlined migration reforms in a speech on Thursday.

Ms Mahmood announced that some failed asylum seekers will be offered an “elevated incentive cost” of £10,000 per person and up to £40,000 per family to leave Britain under a pilot scheme.

She said: “This Government will now pilot the same mannequin for households who’re failed asylum seekers, a small variety of whom will now be provided an elevated incentive cost of £10,000 per particular person and as much as a most of £40,000 per household.”

She said the move would bring a “important saving” to the taxpayer if they prove effective.

She added: “Where a voluntary removing is refused, we are going to escalate to an enforced removing for individuals who may be returned to their protected dwelling nation.

“We are now consulting on precisely how the removal of families with children must take place in a way that is humane and effective. For too long, families who have failed their claims have known that we are not enforcing our rules, which created a perverse incentive to make a Channel crossing with children in a small boat it.”
