House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) argued that Americans “deserve answers” after the Trump administration joined forces with Israel final week to enter a lethal battle with Iran.
During Sunday’s episode of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” moderator Kristen Welker requested Jeffries his ideas on the NBC News’ report that President Donald Trump has privately thought of sending boots on the bottom to Iran.
“Is there any scenario where you would support sending U.S. forces to be on the ground in Iran, Leader Jeffries?” she questioned.
The Democratic chief responded, “No, and in fact candidate Trump suggested that under no circumstances should American service men and women be put into harm’s way in this particular type of situation, particularly as it relates to another endless war in the Middle East.”
“We are deeply saddened right now by the loss of six brave and heroic service men and women who have already lost their lives,” he continued. “We’ll continue to pray for their families and their loved ones.”
Jeffries then declared, “The American people deserve answers from the administration as to how we are going to actually move forward in a way that makes America safer, not more vulnerable.”
On Saturday, Trump remarked that U.S. troops may “possibly” put boots on the bottom in Iran whereas chatting with reporters aboard Air Force One.
After a reporter requested Trump if there have been any circumstances through which he would ship troops to Iran, he replied, “I don’t even want to talk about it now. I don’t think it’s an appropriate question; you know I’m not going to answer it. Could there be? Possibly, for very good reason, have to be very good reason.”
He added: “I would say if we ever did that they would be so decimated that they wouldn’t be able to fight at the ground level.”
Earlier within the interview, Jeffries proclaimed that Americans “don’t want to see billions of dollars being spent to bomb Iran and the Middle East” on the similar time Republicans and Trump are “unwilling to spend a dime to lower their groceries bills” or “actually make it more affordable to go see a doctor” or repair “this affordability crisis that is very real in the United States of America.”
