A robber armed with a kitchen knife grew to become trapped inside a store he tried to steal from because of fast pondering from a workers member.
Dressed all in black and along with his face coated, Jordan Peebles arrived at a store in Riley Square, Coventry, on 24 December 2025. He assaulted a member of workers and threatened them with the knife.
Peebles, 32, then started filling his bag with gadgets from behind the store’s counter. Meanwhile, the store employee he assaulted, who had left the premises, closed the shutter and trapped the thief inside.
CCTV footage confirmed Peebles attempting to pressure his method out, as he tried to drag up the shutter, to no avail.
When cops arrived on the scene, Peebles pleaded to be set free and was arrested as quickly as he stepped out of the door.
Appearing at Warwick Crown Court final week, Peebles pleaded responsible to theft and was jailed for 4 years and 4 months.
West Midlands Police paid tribute to the bravery and fast pondering of the employee.
Detective Sergeant Jay Aston from Coventry native CID, stated: “This was a shocking knifepoint robbery which could have resulted in death or serious injury to the man Peebles assaulted.
“The man confirmed unbelievable bravery and fast pondering to defend himself, depart the store and decrease the shutters, trapping Peebles inside.
“I hope Peebles will have time to reflect on his actions and choices while in prison and am proud of the work of all the officers involved, including the Response officers who were at the scene within minutes to arrest him.”
West Midlands Police stated it encourages anybody who witnesses shoplifting to report it to them, as this allows the pressure to construct an correct image of who’s committing these offences, the place and when.
