The Trump administration can pay virtually $1 billion for a French power firm to desert plans to construct wind farms off the East Coast.

The Interior Department introduced Monday the U.S. would reimburse TotalEnergies for the quantity it paid in leases for offshore wind initiatives through the Biden administration.

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein referred to as the deal between the Trump administration and TotalEnergies “ludicrous.”

“Our state has the offshore wind potential to power millions of homes with renewable American-made energy,” he mentioned in an announcement shared by the NOW. “It’s ludicrous and wasteful that the Trump Administration is spending $1 billion in taxpayer money to pay off a company to stop it from investing private dollars to create the clean energy we need.”
