A brand new ‘backyard city’ of 8,500 properties has been described because the “blueprint” with new plans unveiled. Places for People and Barratt Redrow have revealed that they may construct 1000’s of properties close to Gilston on the Hertfordshire-Essex border. It will comprise of 660 hectares of public open area, restored historic parkland, meadows and woodland, walkable villages, and eight,500 properties, which incorporates plans for no less than 1,950 reasonably priced properties.

Developers have promised that the challenge “balances town and country living and places wellbeing and access to nature at its heart”. As it is on a former Green Belt site, the development has been met with court battles and objections over the past two decades.

HGGT was formally designated by the Government in 2017 and is led by a number of councils: East Herts District Council, Epping Forest District Council, Essex County Council, Harlow District Council and Hertfordshire County Council.
