Trump tells ‘useless’ Nato to remain away after UK and France vow to guard Strait of Hormuz transport | EUROtoday

Donald Trump has informed Nato to “stay away” in one other explosive social media rant after Sir Keir Starmer introduced that the UK and France will work to guard freedom of navigation within the Strait of Hormuz “as soon as conditions allow”.

Britain and France will lead a “multinational mission” geared toward defending ships passing by way of the Strait of Hormuz, the prime minister mentioned at a gathering of world leaders in Paris on Friday.

“This will be strictly peaceful and defensive, as a mission to reassure commercial shipping and support mine clearance,” he mentioned.

“We invite all nations with an interest in the free flow of global trade to join us. Some have already indicated their readiness to contribute. We will take this forward with a military planning conference in London next week where we will announce more detail on the composition of the mission, and over a dozen countries have already offered to contribute assets.”

But US president quickly hit out on the announcement, writing on Truth Social: “Now that the Hormuz Strait situation is over, I received a call from NATO asking if we would need some help. I TOLD THEM TO STAY AWAY, UNLESS THEY JUST WANT TO LOAD UP THEIR SHIPS WITH OIL. They were useless when needed, a Paper Tiger! President DJT”

While the talks occurred within the French capital, Iran has mentioned it has reopened the strait to transport, in a transfer welcomed by the US President.
