Media freedom and pluralism within the EU in 2025 continued to be affected by longstanding considerations, finds the Liberties Media Freedom Report 2026. Speaking with FRANCE 24’s Mark Owen, Jonathan Day, Senior Advocacy Officer on the Civil Liberties Union for Europe, explains that “media is a tool for politicians or the wealthy to project their views” including that “political interference in public broadcasting is quite widespread all across the bloc”.
