Good morning,
I hope that you simply and yours are effectively.
Yesterday was May Day right here in France, a nationwide vacation that celebrates two occasions.
In France we go a bit mad in May as we’ve 4 nationwide holidays. Yes, actually 4! May 1 is the Fête du Travail – Labor Day, which is all about celebrating employees’ rights. The Fête du Travail in France started in 1793 simply after the French Revolution. It was initially in mid-January however within the late Eighteen Eighties when the United States started its marketing campaign for a Labor Day, the French modified their Fête du Travail to match the rising labor motion.
1 May can also be the Fete du Muguet in France. Lily of the valley means lily of the valley. And for nearly 500 years, it has been a practice to offer these delicate, fairly flowers to these you like, family and friends. It all started in 1561 when French King Charles IX was given a sprig on 1st May. He thought it such a stunning concept he gave the flowers to all the women of the courtroom for May Day the following yr. And the behavior grew to become a part of French historical past… So May Day in France is like saying “I love you” and “I respect your right to a fair wage” suddenly! If you need to know extra about yesterday’s nationwide day of celebration – we’ve a petite podcast episode devoted to the historical past of May Day (simply click on and play)…
