An enormous plume of smoke has been seen above Derby metropolis centre, sparking fears of an ‘explosion’. An image posted on-line reveals the thick cloud of black smoke rising above the town.

Residents reported listening to a loud ‘increase’ at round 1.30pm at the moment (Friday, January 12) and in video footage from DerbyshireDwell roaring flames may be seen engulfing a property.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue mentioned 5 engines had been in attendance and warned folks to maintain doorways and home windows closed.

The service mentioned in an announcement: “Five fire engines, an aerial ladder platform and water carrier are in attendance at a fire at a disused property on Melbourne Street, Derby, at the corner of Osmaston Road.

“Both roads will stay closed for a while. Please preserve home windows and doorways closed and keep away from the world.”
