After the movie’s debut at Cannes final 12 months, Johnny Depp’s newest film lands in UK cinemas right now.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor stars as Louis XV, who was monarch of France from 1715-1774.

King Louis XV “The Beloved” succeeded his great-grandfather Louis XIV (the longest-reigning monarch in historical past) on the age of 5.

Historians criticise Louis XV’s reign for his corruption and wars that drained the French treasury for little achieve.

The film, which was shot on the Palace of Versailles the place it takes place, concentrate on the King’s scandalous relationship along with his chief mistress, Jeanne du Barry, performed by the director Maïwenn.

Speaking completely with Express.co.uk, Johnny Depp, who attended the London premiere earlier this week, stated: “As this film is introduced to UK audiences, I am endlessly grateful to Maïwenn for her bravery in choosing me as her King of France. Despite trying, and failing, to talk her out of it, Louis XV was a challenge I didn’t hesitate to step into.

“From my family, I do have some French, but learning the language of the Court of Versailles and the many different personas he had, was uniquely fulfilling for a working actor from Kentucky.”

Jeanne du Barry hits UK cinemas on April 19 and is launched digitally on May 20, 2024.
