Seven hearth engines have been dispatched to a moorland hearth on Tuesday afternoon. Horror footage exhibits thick smoke rising from Saddleworth Moor close to Greenfield.

The “large fire”, as described by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, prompted warnings to residents to maintain their doorways and home windows closed. A message on X from the service reads: “Our crews are tackling a large fire on Saddleworth Moor near Greenfield. Please avoid the area while crews tackle the blaze. Residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed.” Two different fires are raging close to Greater Manchester – in Marsen Moor, close to Deer Hill and Five Mile Post.
