A person threatened Asda employees with needles and a wine bottle throughout a “frightening” theft in Southampton, newly-released footage reveals.
Stuart Andrew Westwood, 38, of no mounted abode, entered the grocery store on Millbrook Road West and started filling a service bag with merchandise on 21 January.
He instantly grew to become aggressive as employees approached and challenged him, and took a number of needles from his pocket and started threatening the store employees, shouting phrases comparable to “Don’t contact me, I’ll stab you,” a court heard.
Westwood also grabbed a bottle of wine, held it above his head and ran towards the employees, threatening to use it as a club.
He pleaded guilty to robbery and was sentenced to 22 months in prison at Southampton Crown Court on Thursday (1 April).
PC Sophie Wellstead, who led the investigation, said: “This was a daunting incident for the employees concerned, who had been merely at work when confronted by a person utilizing needles and a glass bottle to threaten them.”
